SEO Defined
Search Engine Optimization is to know how to increase the ranks of your web pages in order to raise their visibility to search engines. During a search for a keyword or key-phrase, the page rank is used by the search engine to decide the order of the results by propagating the highest ranked pages to the top of the search results page.
The rank of each page is increased by providing the most relevant content information about your products and by proving the relevancy of your content through back-links from other highly ranked pages for the same keywords.
How to raise the visibility of a webpage
1. By selecting the most optimal back links from other pages. Back links are created by conducting a Back-Link Campaign entailing contact through email or telephone with webmasters of websites which are in a complementry line of business. Normally, the campaign manager tackles similar keywords as you have on your page. Also, by profiling your competitors keywords and back links (using links and keyword analysis tools such as www.keywordspy.com or www.webtrends.com and others) you can target the same link generators sites and equest a backlink to your page. The best links are from pages with higher rank than your page. Notice that most will require a back ling from your site. That link should be generated from a different page on your site, if you have a choice as a forward link carries a small cost (penalty) to your page.
2. Choosing the most appropriate keywords related to the subject matter for your webpage. The most important keyword(s) must be part of the page Title and Description tags. With Spidercat CMS you create your tags when you define the page but you can add new or change keywords at anytime. The most important keyword is the one that when your (future) customers perform a natural search using that keyword, your page appears in the top half of the Search Engine Page Results (SERP) or at least the bottom half. This is because, tests have shown that most people look at the top of the SERP page then scan down to the bottom naturally. The title and description supplied in the Description and Title tags will show as part of the SERP entry. The keywords in your Keywords meta tags serve only as verification for the SE and don't appear in the results.
Notice that just by entering for example "ladies-shoes" in the Title and the Description tags doesn't mean that the SE will promote the page unless the text content of the page itself mentions "ladies-shoes" a few times (SE discover the keywords on a page algorithmically, by counting words and words in proximity and determines from that what the page is about. So if the title and keywords are about shoes but the content describes some sort of shoe fetish or have words masked by background color to confuse the engine as to the real intent of the page, the site might be barred from the SE.
